1549 North Maplewood Avenue Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to 1549 North Maplewood Avenue, you might wonder if you’ve got the right address — it’s tucked into a quiet residential block that feels refreshingly removed from the tourist hustle. This three-star spot in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood is actually more of a boutique apartment rental than a traditional hotel, which honestly makes it feel like you’re staying at a friend’s place rather than some sterile chain property. The building itself has that classic Chicago character — red brick with just enough wear to give it personality without looking run-down.
The Wicker Park Advantage
You know what I love about this location? You’re right in the heart of one of Chicago’s coolest neighborhoods, but on a street that’s quiet enough to actually get some sleep. Wicker Park has this perfect mix of artsy coffee shops, vintage stores, and some seriously good restaurant — and you can walk to most of them from here. The Blue Line stop is maybe a 10-minute walk, which means you can get downtown without dealing with parking or rideshare surge pricing. I mean, couples seem to really get this place (the ratings back that up), and I think it’s because you feel like locals rather than tourists staying here.
Your Space
The room — well, it’s more like having your own little Chicago apartment for a few days. There’s a proper kitchen setup, which is honestly a game-changer when you want to grab some groceries from the local market and make coffee the way you actually like it. The space feels lived-in but clean, with hardwood floors and windows that let in plenty of natural light. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable in that “I could actually live here” kind of way that makes you start browsing real estate listings by day three.
The Neighborhood Experience
What really sets this place apart is how it drops you right into the Wicker Park scene without any pretense. You’ll find yourself grabbing morning coffee at one of those indie spots where the barista has better tattoos than most art galleries, then wandering through vintage shops that actually have cool stuff (not just overpriced junk). The area comes alive at night — there’s live music spilling out of venues, people hanging out on stoops, that kind of urban energy that makes you remember why you love cities. And honestly, having your own space to retreat to after all that stimulation is perfect.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a concierge or room service, but that’s sort of the point. Recent guests keep mentioning the location in their reviews, and I get it — you’re staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than touristy. The fact that it consistently gets high ratings (we’re talking 8.7 out of 10) tells you that people appreciate the trade-off between hotel amenities and neighborhood authenticity. If you want to experience Chicago like someone who actually lives here, rather than just visiting, this little spot on North Maplewood delivers exactly that.
To book a hotel in Chicago during winter lights, visitors plan ahead to balance Magnificent Mile shopping with ice-skating at Millennium Park.

A quiet and peaceful little apartment that sits perfect distance from many stores and restaurants. I’ve stayed here a few times before and this remains my favorite spot to call a temporary home while I’m in the city. The host responds fast and is very kind and I recommend this place to anyone looking.

We enjoy that we had a kitchen to use with a nice sized refrigerator.

Loved the shower, that there was a hairdryer, and location. I used to live in this area, so it was wonderful revisiting and seeing how the neighborhood has developed.
Roger from New Zealand (9/10)
A great getaway within easy reach of all the downtown sights, via the "L' subway system. Considering we let ourselves into the wrong apartment, we were very comfortable and found our host Safa charming and helpful.

The location is near the 90 highway which leads to downtown in less than 30 minutes. There are many surrounding restaurants. It is a quiet residential area and available street parking depends on time of day. We still found a spot.

The apartment was spacious and well equipped, perfect for a family group who didn't want separate and anonymous hotel rooms. We didn't use the kitchenette, but it would have been very adequate. We were snug and warm on chilly November nights. The apartment was easy to find from the metro (handily between the airport and downtown). The host provided very helpful welcome and orientation information, and made sure everything was OK after check in.
There's a great cantina on the corner 3 doors away (we heard no noise from it at all) and a coffee place along the street. Highly recommended La Cafe at Western metro for breakfast and any other meals.Ashley from United States (9/10)
This is our second time staying here! It’s in a great location with lots of restaurants and shops nearby to explore and try. Everything was clean and comfortable and I plan on staying here for my next trip into town. The owner is very nice, responds fast and is great with communicating. I’d definitely recommend this as a place to stay if you’re looking around.
