Aloft Chicago Downtown River North Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Aloft Chicago Downtown River North, you immediately get that modern, tech-forward vibe that the Aloft brand is known for. The lobby buzzes with energy — there’s always something happening, whether it’s business travelers grabbing coffee or tourists planning their next move around the city. I mean, this is a three-star hotel that honestly feels like it’s punching above its weight class, especially considering where it sits in Chicago.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about River North — you’re basically in the sweet spot of downtown Chicago without being right in the thick of the Loop’s chaos. Clark Street puts you within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile, but you’re also close enough to catch a Cubs game or explore Lincoln Park when you need a break from the urban intensity. The couples who stay here aren’t wrong when they rave about the location (apparently they rate it 9.3, which honestly makes sense). You can walk to Navy Pier, hit up some fantastic restaurant, or just wander the neighborhood without feeling like you’re fighting tourist crowds every step of the way.
The Room Experience
The room setup is pretty smart — everything’s designed with a sort of minimalist efficiency that actually works. The beds really are as comfortable as people say (and trust me, after walking around Chicago all day, you’ll appreciate that). The tech integration is seamless too — you can control lighting and temperature from your phone, which sounds gimmicky but turns out to be genuinely useful. The windows offer decent city views, though honestly, the real appeal is just having a comfortable base in such a prime location.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast situation here is more flexible than your typical hotel setup. They’ve got continental options, American classics, and a buffet that changes things up depending on the day. What I really appreciate is the grab-and-go option — sometimes you just want to get out and explore the city rather than sitting in a hotel restaurant. The coffee is solid (important when you’re planning a full day of Chicago exploration), and the variety means you won’t get bored if you’re staying multiple nights.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this hotel gets an 8.6 rating because it delivers on the basics while adding some genuine style and convenience. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really can walk to most of what makes Chicago interesting from here. It’s not trying to be an upscale destination (and the price reflects that), but it’s a smart choice for travelers who want to spend their time and money exploring the city rather than hanging out in their hotel. The combination of modern amenities, comfortable accommodations, and that unbeatable River North location makes it work for both business trips and weekend getaways.

The location and staff were amazing! We were always greeting by the front desk with a smile and they were happy to serve us with anything we needed. We were able to walk out of the hotel with many restaurants to choose from. Highly recommend!

It’s right between everything. Went for a concert and only had to walk a short distance to house of blues! Check in was easy and staff was nice. I didn’t pay for the ‘nicer’ view but the view we had wasn’t necessarily bad either.
