Chicago Getaway Hostel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Chicago Getaway Hostel on Arlington Place, you immediately get that “this is actually happening” feeling — you know, when you realize you’re staying in one of Chicago’s most walkable neighborhoods without breaking the bank. The building itself has this classic Chicago charm, and honestly, the Lincoln Park location is what sold me before I even stepped inside. It’s one of those three-star places that punches way above its weight class, especially considering you’re basically in the heart of everything that makes this city great.
The Lincoln Park Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally surrounded by some of the best stuff Chicago has to offer. The lakefront is a quick walk east, and I mean quick, like five minutes and you’re staring at Lake Michigan. Lincoln Park Zoo is right there too, which sounds touristy but honestly, it’s free and pretty fantastic. The neighborhood has this perfect mix of young professionals and families, so there’s always something happening but it never feels overwhelming. Plus, the public transit connections are solid — the Red Line isn’t far, and you’ve got bus routes that’ll get you downtown or to other neighborhoods without much hassle.
What You’re Actually Getting
The room situation here is pretty straightforward — clean, functional, and way more comfortable than you’d expect from a hostel. I’ve stayed in places that cost twice as much and felt half as welcoming. The common areas actually encourage you to hang out and meet people, which is sort of the whole point, right? There’s a shared kitchen that’s well-equipped enough to make real meals, not just ramen (though no judgment if that’s your thing). The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you have a good time in the city, and they’ll point you toward spots that locals actually go to.
The Couple-Friendly Factor
What surprised me most is how well this works for couples — and apparently I’m not alone in thinking that, since the feedback consistently mentions how much couples love staying here. It’s got that cozy, intimate vibe without being stuffy or overly romantic. You can have your own space when you want it, but there’s also this social energy that makes the whole experience feel more authentic than just hiding out in a standard hotel room. The Lincoln Park setting definitely helps with this — evening walks through the neighborhood are genuinely lovely, and there are enough good dinner spots within walking distance to keep things interesting.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t about fancy amenities or over-the-top service — it’s about location, value, and that feeling like you’re actually experiencing Chicago rather than just visiting it. The 8.3 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. You’re staying in Lincoln Park, which is honestly one of the best neighborhoods in the city, and you’re doing it without spending a fortune. The hostel manages to feel both social and comfortable, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. Whether you’re traveling solo and want to meet people or you’re a couple looking for something different from the usual hotel experience, this place just works.

Reviews of Chicago Getaway Hostel
Vinko from Croatia (9/10)
This hostel is perfect for a casual visit to Chicago. Great value for money! We booked 3 beds in a 4 persons bedroom. Had our own shower. The hostel is a 10 minute walk from the nearest L-train stop, so you can get to downtown quite quickly. There are bars and food places close by as well.

I’ve been staying here for years and it is a great option for budget travelers or people who are less interested in spending their money on a place to sleep vs doing things. Staff is great and friendly and it is very clean.

We loved the location! It was in a cute neighborhood and off the beaten path of "Chicago". Our private room was cute and spacious for our needs. The shared bathroom was exceptionally clean and provided appropriate privacy as expected. The common area was super cute and gave a upscale "college" vibe (if that's the right comparison). We would definitely stay here again! Oh…if you like a ceiling fan while you sleep…this place had it!!!
Charlotte from Canada (8/10)
Good location – hostel is in a quite area, but a 5min walk to a busy street with every restaurant you can think of. 30min by metro to downtown.
