Claridge House Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Claridge House on North Dearborn Parkway, you immediately get that “I made the right choice” feeling. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of Gold Coast — honestly, one of the most walkable and genuinely charming neighborhoods in Chicago. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciate more than those flashy hotel lobbies that try too hard.
The Gold Coast Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally steps from Oak Street Beach when you want that lakefront vibe, but you can also walk to some of the city’s best shopping and dining without dealing with the tourist chaos of Michigan Avenue. The tree-lined streets around here feel almost residential, which means you get to experience Chicago like someone who actually lives here. I mean, couples consistently rate this spot a 9.4 for good reason — there’s something romantic about strolling these sidewalks, especially in the evening when the historic mansions are all lit up.
Sleep Quality That Actually Matters
You know what’s rare in city hotels? Actually getting a good night’s sleep. The beds here are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel marketing comfortable, but the kind where you wake up refreshed instead of feeling like you wrestled with lumpy pillows all night. The room I stayed in faced the parkway, so there was enough urban energy to remind you you’re in Chicago, but not so much noise that you’re counting garbage trucks at 5 AM. The windows are well-insulated, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to sleep in a city this size.
Neighborhood Discoveries
What I didn’t expect was how easy it became to slip into a local routine. There’s a fantastic coffee spot just two blocks south that the concierge mentioned — not some chain, but one of those places where the barista actually remembers your order. The nearby streets are perfect for morning runs if that’s your thing, and you can easily walk to Lincoln Park Zoo or just wander the lakefront trail. Evening walks became my favorite part of staying here, especially heading toward the lake as the sun sets behind the city skyline.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it strikes that perfect balance between being in the thick of things without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. You’re close enough to downtown that a quick Uber or even the L gets you anywhere you need to go, but you’re staying in a neighborhood that feels authentically Chicago. The staff seems to understand that travelers want insider knowledge — they’ll point you toward the good stuff locals actually frequent rather than just handing you a generic tourist map. It’s the kind of hotel where you end up extending your stay if you can, not because there’s so much to do in the building itself, but because the location makes exploring the city feel effortless and genuine.
Exploring Chicago layers architectural icons, blues clubs, and neighborhoods simmering with global cuisine.

My room was facing an inner wall but I requested a room quicker due to my early arrival and host told me this one was available but it had no view. So no issue and I appreciated the quiet room. The bed was super comfortable and the room was quiet.

Location was great! Convenient and very close to everything! Train station was a block from the hotel and proximity to areas of interest are accessible either by walking or ride share. The room was nice and clean. It was quiet too and no annoying neighbors that were too loud. Lastly, staff was helpful and friendly.

The rooms are near-perfect – spacious, comfortable and very very clean. The hotel's staff is friendly and easy to reach out to, always happy to help out. The location is great too – close to all your needed restaurants (Old Town), shops (Mag Mile) and the beach.
