Courtyard Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile Overview

First Impressions

Walking into the Courtyard Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile, you immediately get that polished business hotel vibe — but in the best way possible. The lobby feels modern without being cold, and honestly, the staff actually seems to know what they’re doing. This four-star property sits right on East Ontario Street, and I mean right in the thick of everything that makes downtown Chicago worth visiting.

Location That Actually Delivers

You know what’s refreshing? A hotel that lives up to its location claims. The Magnificent Mile is literally steps away — I’m talking about a two-minute walk to Michigan Avenue’s shopping madness. Navy Pier is close enough for an easy stroll, and getting to Millennium Park takes maybe 15 minutes on foot. The Streeterville neighborhood has this nice mix of tourists and locals, so you’re not stuck in some sterile hotel district. Plus, there’s parking available right at the hotel, which honestly feels like a minor miracle in downtown Chicago.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star chain — clean, comfortable, and designed for people who actually need to get things done. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel marketing speak), and the workspace setup is thoughtful if you’re traveling for business. What I appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting, plenty of outlets, and a bathroom that doesn’t feel cramped. The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but even the city-facing rooms give you a decent glimpse of Chicago’s urban energy.

Dining and Amenities

The on-site restaurant serves that reliable American fare you’d expect — nothing groundbreaking, but solid enough for a quick breakfast or dinner when you don’t feel like venturing out. I actually found myself using the fitness center more than I expected, and it’s well-equipped without being overwhelming. The business center and meeting spaces look like they get plenty of use, which makes sense given the location. There’s also a decent lobby area where you can actually sit and work or just people-watch. Whether you’re staying for business or leisure, the amenities here strike a nice balance.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing — couples really seem to get this place, rating the location a 9.3 for romantic getaways, and I can see why. You’re close enough to everything to feel connected to the city, but the hotel itself provides a nice retreat from the Michigan Avenue chaos. The combination of professional service, solid amenities, and that unbeatable Streeterville location creates something that works for both business travelers and weekend visitors. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in Chicago, but it delivers on the fundamentals in a way that actually matters when you’re trying to enjoy your stay.

Hotel in Chicago reservations spike before St. Patrick’s Day when the river glows emerald and parades roll.

Reviews of Courtyard Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

  • Peta from New Zealand (9/10)

Location was perfect for exploring central Chicago on foot. Close to tours and sightseeing. Concierge was very helpful with maps and information when we first arrived.

  • Tanya from United States (9/10)

The staff was excellent! Everyone I encountered was pleasant and efficient. It was great to have access to a fitness room and an indoor pool. The view from our room really gave us the sense of being immersed in the heart of the city. Being able to walk easily to Navy Pier was perfect. Traveling with a tween can be hit-or-miss and the Courtyard Marriott made it a hit!

  • Patricia from Portugal (8/10)

Great location to visit Chicago and right in the middle of the top spots. Hotel slightly run down and old. Housekeeping not included every day.

I thought the hotel had two major reasons for staying there: the staff and the location. The staff was always helpful, very friendly and available. This hotel is easily accessible to rideshare and is very close to Michigan Avenue bus lines. It's a walk-able city so coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries and some sites were easily reachable on foot. The hotel offers amenities such as an indoor pool, exercise room and on site restaurant. We didn't visit the restaurant but used the other two and were satisfied.

The rooms are large which is very nice if you're sharing with a friend or family member. The bathrooms are also nicely sized.

    Cleanliness and location

  • Ting from Canada (9/10)

Excellent location in downtown core, walking distance to almost all tourist spots. Valet parking $40/24 hrs offsite (without accessing car) or about $65 if you want in and out.

Room is spacious, clean just like the pictures, definitely worth the money.
