Holiday Inn – Chicago Dwtn – Wolf Point, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Holiday Inn – Chicago Dwtn – Wolf Point, an IHG Hotel honestly feels like you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special for a three-star property. The lobby has this modern, clean vibe that doesn’t try too hard — you know what I mean? It’s polished without being stuffy, and the staff actually seems happy to see you arrive. I mean, you’re literally standing at the confluence of the Chicago River’s three branches, which is kind of cool when you think about it.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about this spot in River North — it’s ridiculously well-positioned. You can walk to the Magnificent Mile in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to the Loop that getting to work meetings or tourist stuff downtown is a breeze. The couples who stay here absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.0, which honestly makes sense), and I think it’s because you get these amazing river views without the chaos of being right in the thick of Michigan Avenue. The Wolf Point Plaza area has really come into its own lately — there are some solid restaurant within walking distance, and the riverwalk is right there when you need to clear your head.
The Room Experience
The room setup is what you’d expect from Holiday Inn, but better. Clean lines, comfortable beds, and — this is key — actual space to move around. The windows are generous, so if you snag a river-facing room, you’re in for a treat. The bathrooms are updated and functional, nothing fancy but everything works properly. I appreciate that they’ve kept the design simple rather than trying to be something they’re not. The Wi-Fi is solid, the air conditioning actually cools the room, and there’s enough parking nearby that you won’t spend twenty minutes circling the block.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is actually pretty decent — they do Continental, American, and buffet options, which gives you some flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing to a meeting or taking your time. The American breakfast hits the spot when you need something substantial, and the continental works when you just want coffee and something quick. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s consistent and gets the job done. Plus, the restaurant area has good natural light, so it doesn’t feel like you’re eating in a basement.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this property delivers exactly what it promises — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The location score of 9.2 tells the whole story, really. You’re in Chicago without paying downtown premium prices, you can walk to most places you actually want to go, and the river setting gives you a bit of breathing room from the urban intensity. Business travelers love it because it’s professional without being pretentious, and couples appreciate the romantic potential of those river views. It’s the kind of place that just works — reliable, well-located, and honest about what it offers.

I loved the location of the hotel, downtown, by the river, a perfect start of the Riverwalk tour. Also the views over the river and the city (also from the breakfast deck) were amazing. The price we paid for a double room was really decent for the location and general standards, esp. that our breakfast was included.
