Marriott Marquis Chicago Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Marriott Marquis Chicago, you’re immediately struck by how this four-star property manages to feel both grand and approachable. The lobby has that polished Marriott feel, but there’s something distinctly Chicago about it — maybe it’s the way the light hits the windows or the subtle nods to the city’s architecture. I mean, you know you’re in a quality hotel, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or intimidating like some of the bigger downtown properties can.
South Loop Location
Here’s what I love about staying in the South Loop — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not drowning in the tourist chaos of the Loop proper. The hotel sits on South Prairie Avenue, and honestly, it’s one of those spots where you feel like you’ve discovered something locals know about. You can walk to Grant Park without fighting crowds, and getting to Museum Campus is actually pleasant. Couples seem to get this location particularly well (they rate it super highly), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about strolling through this neighborhood, especially in the evening when Chicago‘s skyline lights up to the north.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from Marriott — clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything works like it should. What surprised me was how quiet it was, considering you’re still in the city. The windows are solid, and you actually get decent views depending on which side you’re on. The bathroom was well-appointed, nothing fancy but definitely functional, and the shower pressure was spot-on. You know what I appreciated? The work desk actually had good lighting — seems small, but when you’re trying to catch up on emails, it matters.
Dining and Amenities
The American breakfast here is pretty solid — not groundbreaking, but they do it right. Fresh coffee, decent selection, and the staff keeps things moving smoothly even when it gets busy. I was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant options nearby too; being in South Loop means you’re not stuck with just hotel food. There’s private parking available, which honestly is a huge relief in Chicago — you don’t realize how much stress that eliminates until you don’t have to circle blocks looking for a spot.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances being a proper hotel with feeling accessible. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, and the location gives you that sweet spot of being connected but not overwhelmed. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and after staying here, I get it — you’re positioned perfectly to explore different parts of the city without feeling like you’re starting from scratch every day. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax between adventures, and in a city like Chicago, that’s worth its weight in deep-dish pizza.
Hotels in Chicago tower above riverwalks, jazz lounges, and deep-dish diners.

Reviews of Marriott Marquis Chicago

Room was well furnished; pillows were nice and soft; the bed felt similar to my own. I appreciated the darkness of the room for sleeping and the room safe. It was nice to have an ironing board and iron and even better that I didn't have to use it. The Room Service speed was excellent.

The cleaning staff did a great job. The room was very comfortable and close to the conference centre. The lifts were also quick and organised well.
Breakfast purchased at the dining restaurant was great. Breakfast purchased to go was average.Ashley from United States (8/10)
I loved the breakfast and the staff were nice. What mostly impressed was the luxury of the hotel itself and the cleanliness of the hotel and hotel room with the amazing view I had outside it really was jaw-dropping.

I thought the offerings on the buffet were limited given the price point and please don't try to feed me "chicken" breakfast sausage.
