Sonder Jewelers Row Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Sonder Jewelers Row on South Wabash, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hotel setup. It’s actually an apartment-style property, which honestly makes perfect sense in this part of downtown Chicago. The building has this classic Chicago character — you know, the kind of place that feels like it belongs in the Loop without trying too hard. I mean, when you’re staying right in the heart of everything, you want something that feels authentic to the city, and this three-star spot delivers on that front.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally steps from the Art Institute, and Millennium Park is just a quick walk east. The Loop can feel overwhelming sometimes, but being on Wabash puts you right in the sweet spot where you can actually walk to most things without dealing with the craziness of State Street crowds. Plus, there’s something romantic about this area that couples really pick up on — probably why it gets such high marks for romantic getaways. The L trains are super accessible too, which honestly saves you so much money on rideshares.
The Space Itself
What sets this place apart is that each apartment feels like you’re actually living in Chicago for a bit, not just visiting. The units come with a full kitchen, which is clutch when you want to grab groceries from the Jewel down the street or just make coffee without paying hotel prices. The room layouts are smart — they’ve figured out how to make these spaces feel bigger than they actually are. Everything’s clean and modern, but not in that sterile way that makes you feel like you’re in a corporate housing situation.
Daily Life Here
One thing that surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re right downtown. The windows do a decent job blocking out street noise, though you’ll still hear the occasional siren — but that’s just Chicago being Chicago. There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, with all the incredible food options within a few blocks, you don’t really need one. The building doesn’t have parking included, but there are several garages nearby if you’re driving in (though I’d recommend just flying in and using the trains).
Why Guests Love It
The real win here is the combination of location and value — you’re getting that downtown Chicago experience without the premium hotel prices. Recent guests consistently mention how easy it is to walk to major attractions, and couples especially seem to love the independence that comes with having your own space. It’s not trying to be fancy, but it nails the basics really well. If you want to feel like a temporary Chicagoan rather than a tourist, this is exactly the kind of place that makes that happen.
Hotel in Chicago reservations spike before St. Patrick’s Day when the river glows emerald and parades roll.

Location. Comfort. Also, luckily wasn't near the rail line, otherwise would have been noisey.

See below for disappointment the description was different from the reality. Otherwise the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen was great. Washer and dryer were handy.

Good location, close to Millennium Park and the Art Institute.
Good kitchen and laundry facilities.Wolfgang from United States (8/10)
The location for this property was ideal for our short business trip, close to downtown Chicago, restaurants, Millennium Park, etc. The price was very reasonable compared to other local hotels with inflated prices.
Gina from United States (9/10)
Location was close to everything
Natalia from United States (8/10)
The metro train was a little too loud, the location was amazing, the cleanliness and comfort were great. I would stay again for the location only. The art institute was only a block away! Multiple museums, theaters, river tours and parks were within walking distance.
