The Robey, Chicago, a Member of Design Hotels Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Robey, Chicago, a Member of Design Hotels, you can’t miss that striking triangular building — it’s honestly one of the most distinctive structures in Wicker Park. The architecture alone makes you stop and stare, but once you step inside, you realize this four-star hotel is all about that perfect balance between edgy design and genuine comfort. I mean, the lobby has this industrial-chic vibe that somehow feels welcoming rather than cold, which isn’t always easy to pull off.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re right in the heart of Wicker Park here, and honestly, couples seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.6 out of 10, which makes total sense when you explore the area. North Avenue puts you within walking distance of some of Chicago’s best independent shops, craft breweries, and music venues. The Blue Line stop is just a few blocks away, so getting downtown is actually pretty straightforward. What I love about this spot is that you get that authentic Chicago neighborhood feel without being stuck in the tourist bubble — you know what I mean?
The Room Experience
The rooms here are something else — guests consistently rave about the beds, and after spending a night, I totally get why. They’ve really nailed that “sink into comfort” feeling without making the room feel overly soft or generic. The design keeps that industrial edge with exposed brick and steel fixtures, but the linens and lighting create this cozy atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding. The windows are huge (thanks to that triangular architecture), so you get these great views of the neighborhood, especially if you’re on a higher floor.
Practical Perks
Here’s something that’ll save you some hassle — they actually have parking right at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend in this part of Chicago. Street parking in Wicker Park can be… well, let’s just say it’s not fun. The staff seems to really know their stuff too, and they’re quick to point you toward the best local spots rather than just rattling off the usual tourist recommendations. The restaurant downstairs serves solid food, though honestly, with all the amazing options in the neighborhood, you might find yourself wandering out to explore.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both distinctly Chicago and genuinely comfortable at the same time. You’re not staying in some generic hotel that could be anywhere — the building itself tells a story, and the location puts you right in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The fact that couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways speaks to something special here — maybe it’s that combination of urban edge and surprising comfort, or just the way the whole experience feels authentically local rather than manufactured. Either way, you’ll probably find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.
Hotels in Chicago tower above riverwalks, jazz lounges, and deep-dish diners.

Love the location and the design of the room – simple, comfortable and clean. Great views back to the city. Breakfast in Cafe Robey was fab. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Oh, and the cocktails by the splash pool in the sunshine, and rooftop cocktails before heading out for an evening – these are a must!!

Very clean room. Amazing location. Honestly one of the best hotels in chicago if you aren't trying to stay in the loop and want to experience more of the neighborhood feel of Wicker park. Near amazing bars and restaurants plus next to a train stop.
