Honestly, the location is probably the hotel’s biggest selling point, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally steps from the University of Chicago campus, which means you can wander through those beautiful quads whenever you want. The Museum of Science and Industry is just a short walk away, and if you’re into architecture (which, let’s face it, most people visiting Chicago are), you’re surrounded by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House and other Prairie School gems. What I really appreciate is that you get parking here — actually having a guaranteed spot in this part of the city is huge, especially when you’re dealing with university area street parking.

The Room Experience

The room design leans heavily into that scholarly aesthetic without being stuffy about it. Think rich wood tones, quality linens, and these great reading nooks that actually make you want to curl up with a book. The bathrooms are well-appointed — nothing groundbreaking, but everything works perfectly and feels thoughtfully chosen. You know what I noticed? The lighting is really well done throughout, which sounds minor but makes such a difference when you’re trying to work or just relax in the evening.

Dining & Social Spaces

The hotel’s restaurant captures that academic club vibe really well — it’s the kind of place where you could imagine professors having long discussions over dinner. The menu focuses on elevated American cuisine, and while it’s not revolutionary, it’s consistently good and uses quality ingredients. The bar area becomes this nice social hub in the evenings, drawing both hotel guests and locals from the university community. I actually enjoyed the mix of people you encounter here — visiting academics, parents in town for university events, and travelers who specifically chose this area for its cultural offerings.

Couples especially seem to love it here — there’s something romantic about strolling through the campus at dusk and then coming back to a comfortable, well-designed space.   The location was perfect! Great greenery for city park walks and runs as well as access to museums and the university as well as excellent public transportation access. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the quality of equipment in the gym facility was a welcome surprise. The in-house restaurant was also exceptional. I was able to have a FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST! I would love to stay here again when visiting Chicago!
