Wrigley Hostel – Chicago Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Wrigley Hostel – Chicago on Sheffield Avenue, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hostel experience. The building sits right in the heart of Lakeview, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. This three-star spot has managed to carve out something special in one of Chicago’s most vibrant neighborhoods — I mean, you’re literally a few blocks from Wrigley Field, which explains the name and the energy you feel around here.

The Lakeview Advantage

What really struck me about staying here is how perfectly positioned you are for exploring the city. Lakeview isn’t just touristy — it’s where actual Chicagoans hang out, grab coffee, and live their daily lives. You’ve got the Red Line practically at your doorstep, so getting downtown takes maybe 15 minutes. But honestly, you might not want to leave the neighborhood that often. The stretch of Sheffield and Clark nearby is packed with local bars, coffee shops, and those little spots that make Chicago feel authentic rather than just another big city.

The Space Itself

The room setup here works well — it’s clean, functional, and doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You know what I appreciated? The staff actually seems to care about maintaining the place properly. The common areas feel lived-in but not worn down, and there’s this relaxed vibe that makes it easy to meet other travelers without feeling forced. The kitchen area is well-equipped if you want to save money on meals, though with all the food options nearby, you might find yourself eating out more than planned.

Getting Around and Exploring

Here’s something I didn’t expect — the parking situation is actually manageable if you’re driving, which is rare for this part of the city. But honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The lakefront is an easy walk east, and Lincoln Park Zoo is close enough for a morning jog if that’s your thing. What really makes the location work is that you’re in a residential area that feels safe to walk around, even later in the evening when you’re coming back from exploring downtown or catching a Cubs game.

Why Guests Love It

The ratings here tell the real story — couples especially seem to get what this place offers, and I can see why. It’s got that sweet spot of being affordable without feeling like you’re roughing it, plus the neighborhood gives you both the local Chicago experience and easy access to all the tourist stuff. The recent guest scores for location are consistently high, and after spending time here, that makes complete sense. You’re not just staying somewhere cheap — you’re staying somewhere that actually enhances your Chicago experience by putting you right where the city feels most authentic.

Hotels in Chicago tower above riverwalks, jazz lounges, and deep-dish diners.

    Good location
Hostel always clean with many bathrooms
    Free breakfast the weekend
    Great staff

  • Minseon from South Korea (8/10)

Staff were really friendly and helpful – I asked whether I could buy shampoo/body wash and they handed me a basket of communal shower items that previous guests have left behind. I didn't have to wait too long for a morning shower either. Beds were comfy and sheets were clean! Location wasn't too bad (better than expected) because the Brown line runs directly from the hostel to downtown, and my local friend confirmed that the Brown line is safe to ride at nights.
