Residence Inn by Marriott Chicago Downtown/Loop Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Residence Inn by Marriott Chicago Downtown/Loop on South LaSalle Street, you immediately get that “this is actually downtown” feeling. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the Loop — step outside and you’re surrounded by the energy of Chicago’s financial district. The lobby has that extended-stay vibe that’s polished but not stuffy, and honestly, the staff seems genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I actually appreciate.
The Location Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying right on LaSalle Street — you’re walking distance to basically everything that matters in downtown Chicago. The Art Institute is maybe a 10-minute walk, Millennium Park is right there, and if you need to catch the L, there are multiple stations within a few blocks. Couples seem to really get this location (they rate it 9.3, which honestly makes sense), probably because you can easily walk to dinner spots in River North or catch a show in the Theater District without dealing with rideshares or taxis every single time.
The Room Experience
What sets this place apart is that every room is basically an apartment — you get a full kitchen with a real refrigerator, stovetop, and dishwasher. I know it sounds basic, but when you’re staying for more than a night or two, having actual counter space and the ability to make coffee that doesn’t come from a tiny hotel machine is kind of life-changing. The beds are genuinely comfortable too — they’ve got this reputation for really good sleep, and I can confirm it’s not just marketing speak. The windows are large enough that you actually get decent natural light, which isn’t always a given in downtown hotels.
Breakfast and Daily Rhythms
The complimentary breakfast is American buffet style, and while it’s not going to blow your mind, it’s substantial enough that you can skip lunch if you load up properly. They do the usual eggs, bacon, and pastries, but there’s also oatmeal, fresh fruit, and decent coffee. What I really appreciate is that the restaurant area doesn’t feel cramped — you can actually sit and read the news or plan your day without feeling rushed. There’s also evening social hours a few nights a week with light snacks and drinks, which is nice if you want to unwind without committing to a full dinner out.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it solves the real problems of staying downtown Chicago — you get space, you get location, and you get amenities that actually matter for longer stays. The parking situation is handled (though it’s not cheap, but that’s Chicago for you), and there’s a fitness center that’s small but functional. Business travelers love it because you can actually work from your room comfortably, and leisure travelers appreciate being able to store leftovers and make morning coffee without leaving the building. It’s not flashy, but it’s smart — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a city like Chicago.

Cleanliness and location was my important
Sabina from Switzerland (8/10)
The hotel is located in the city's business district. Good for tourists as it is close to the pier, the lake and many museums. There are also several restaurants, a 7/11 or a Walgreen's nearby. It is not a residential neighborhood. We chose the hotel for the Chicago Marathon. It is perfectly located for this.

Location was great. Walking distance to shopping, Riverwalk, tram stations, and millennium park. Facility itself was beautiful, very comfortable, good breakfast.

Big room with two separate areas
Jo from Australia (8/10)
Great location. Comfortable beds. Good facilities in the room with great kitchen facilities. A full size fridge and even a stovetop, though we didn't cook a meal while we were there. The hotel breakfast had a good range. It was reasonably quiet considering we were right in the city, though we heard some traffic and siren noises at night. The curtains were quite good blockout for the light. The shower sprayed into the rest of the bathroom a bit, it was a poor design for the screen.
